COMMUNITY EVENT – NORTHAMPTON

Wednesday, August 24th at Northampton Center for the Arts

On Wednesday, August 24th, we participated in a fabulous event in Northampton, celebrating our journey and spreading awareness about stroke, aphasia, and the emotional journey with about 80 attendees. Thank you so much to Jacquie Kurland, event host and Associate Professor, UMass Amherst School of Public Health & Health Sciences and Curriculum Partner (Pioneer Valley IPE initiative last year and this coming fall) for putting together such an amazing event. Another huge thank you to Brooke Hallowell, Dean, Springfield College School of Health Sciences who provided the food for the event.

In addition to Steve and Deb, we heard from a handful of stroke survivors and carepartners – Barbara, Jeanne, Mike/Randy, Joyce, Darius/Carrie, and enjoyed live music by Amanda Bernhard (SLP/chanteuse), Lisa Sommers (UMass Clinic Director/harmony), and Laura, and another wonderful performance by Stew Williams, a stroke survivor with aphasia and hemiplegia who shared a multimedia musical performance that was truly inspiring.
