COMMUNITY EVENT – CHICAGO

Event Hosted by:

Thursday, July 28th at Lake Shore Park

Our partners at Shirley Ryan AbilityLab (SRA) hosted a very moving (in more ways than one) community event, with more than 60 people in attendance. This event celebrated stroke and aphasia awareness with a special emphasis on highlighting the ways that we all can adapt activities for rewarding lives. After a warm kick-off by Leora Cherney, SRA’s Director, Center for Aphasia Research and Treatment, Deb, Steve, and Michael spoke about the Stroke Across America journey thus far. Then three incredible stroke survivors: Steve, Mat, and Lisa spoke about living and thriving with aphasia and they highlighted how to use technology to support their communication.

SRA Adaptive Sports and Fitness program closed out the program by leading us through a series of chair and standing exercises and invited us to test out their recumbent bicycles around the track at the park. Thanks so much to the SRA team for inspiring us and getting us moving!
